PoE Djinn Coins Guide: How to Find and Use Them in the Mirage League

Path of Exile’s 3.28 Mirage League introduced Djinn Coins, a new currency type that lets you add a free support gem effect to any Level 20 skill gem. The process creates an “Imbued Gem” that permanently gains a random level 1 support without using an extra socket. It sounds simple, but there are restrictions, farming strategies, and pitfalls that most players learn the hard way.

What Are Djinn Coins?

Djinn Coins are a currency introduced in the Mirage League (Patch 3.28), which launched on March 6, 2026. They allow you to corrupt a Level 20 uncorrupted skill gem to permanently add a random level 1 support gem effect. The result is called an Imbued Gem.

Think of it as a free 7th or 8th link. Your skill gem itself carries the support effect, meaning you don’t need an extra socket or link to benefit from it. The tradeoff is that the support effect is random (within the coin’s attribute pool) and the gem becomes corrupted, so you can’t modify it further.

All Five Coin Types Explained

There are five Djinn Coins in the Mirage League. The first three are the ones you’ll use for imbuing gems. The last two have different purposes entirely.

The three imbuing coins (Power, Skill, Knowledge) each pull from their attribute’s support gem pool. How to Find Djinn Coins

Djinn Coins drop from the Mirage League mechanic in maps. Here’s the step-by-step flow:

Step 1: Find and Free Afarud

While running maps (area level 68+), you’ll encounter Afarud, a bound Djinn held captive by enemies. Defeat the captors to free him.

Step 2: Choose Your Wishes

After freeing Afarud, the NPC Varashta appears and offers you three Wishes. Each Wish displays a Sigil (Ruzhan, Kelari, or Navira) that determines which coin type drops in the Mirage zone. Pick Wishes with sigils matching the attribute you need.

Step 3: Enter the Mirage Portal

Selecting a Wish opens a Mirage portal. The Mirage zone is a copy of the map’s natural inhabitants and inherits all active map mods, scarabs, and Atlas passive bonuses. Kill monsters inside to spawn Bronze, Silver, and Gold Djinn Caches. Gold caches drop the most coins.

Alternative Sources

Djinn Coins can also drop from Honoured Incubators and Sacred Incubators. These are less reliable than farming Mirage zones directly, but they’re a nice bonus when they proc.

How to Use Djinn Coins (Imbued Gems)

Using a Djinn Coin is straightforward, but preparation matters. Here’s the process:

1. Prepare your gem. Get your skill gem to Level 20 with 20% quality. Quality must be applied first because the coin corrupts the gem, and corrupted items can’t be modified. If you skip this step, you’re stuck with whatever quality the gem had.

2. Pick the right coin. Choose based on the support effect you want, not your build’s main attribute. Coin of Power rolls from STR supports, Coin of Skill from DEX supports, and Coin of Knowledge from INT supports. A melee build might want Faster Attacks (DEX pool) just as much as Melee Physical Damage (STR pool), so check which supports would actually help your skill before picking a coin.

3. Use the coin on the gem. Right-click the Djinn Coin, then click your Level 20 uncorrupted skill gem. The gem becomes corrupted and gains a random level 1 support effect from the coin’s attribute pool.

4. Check the result. The added support appears on the gem’s tooltip. If you got a bad roll (like Brutality on an elemental skill), there’s no way to reroll it. You’ll need another Level 20 gem and another coin to try again.

Restrictions and Interactions

Imbued Gems have several restrictions that trip up players who don’t read the fine print.

One Imbued Gem per equipment piece. You cannot socket two Imbued Gems in the same piece of gear. If you try, the game won’t let you. This is the biggest limitation and the one that changes how you plan your gem setup.

Mutually exclusive with Vaal corruption. You can’t Vaal an Imbued Gem, and you can’t imbue a Vaal gem. It’s one or the other. If you were planning to double-corrupt an Imbued Gem for Level 21 or alternate quality, that’s not possible.

No Exceptional supports. The random support roll cannot land on Empower, Enlighten, or Enhance. Those are excluded from the pool entirely.

Corrupted = locked. Once imbued, the gem is corrupted. No more GCPs for quality, no Gemcutter’s Prism, no further modifications of any kind.

What Does Work

Transfigured gems can be imbued. If you have a Level 20 Transfigured variant, you can use a Djinn Coin on it. This opens up some powerful combinations for niche builds.

Multiple Imbued Gems in the same item (workaround). The restriction is one Imbued Gem per linked group, not per item. If you break links using the Crafting Bench so each Imbued Gem sits in its own isolated link group, you can technically have more than one in a single equipment piece. This is an advanced technique and costs you link flexibility.

Farming Strategy

If you’re farming Djinn Coins specifically, there are ways to increase your yield per map. Your map choice matters too, since compact layouts maximize Mirage zone overlap with the Djinn encounter.

Target your sigils. When Varashta offers three Wishes, always pick the one with the sigil matching the coin type you need. Want Coin of Power (STR supports)? Take Ruzhan sigils. Need Coin of Skill (DEX supports)? Kelari. Coin of Knowledge (INT supports)? Navira. This is the single most impactful decision for farming specific coins.

Run claustrophobic layouts. Mirage zones mirror the map’s area. Tighter, more compact layouts mean the Mirage fills a larger portion of the playable space, giving you higher effective monster density and more Djinn Caches per run.

Prioritize Gold Djinn Caches. Bronze, Silver, and Gold caches all drop coins, but Gold caches yield significantly more. Clear the Mirage zone thoroughly rather than rushing through.

Stack Atlas passives. Mirage zones inherit your Atlas tree bonuses, including quantity and pack size modifiers. The same passives that make your regular mapping more profitable also boost Mirage zone drops.

Prepare backup gems. Bad support rolls happen. Brutality on Elemental Hit, Spell Echo on an attack skill, Chain on a single-target setup. Have multiple Level 20 copies of your main skill ready so one bad roll doesn’t stall your build. The endgame builds that benefit most from Mageblood are the same ones that want perfect Imbued Gems, so plan your currency accordingly.
